Sara Jane Doberstein
Sara Jane Doberstein was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, but has spent the majority of her life in Owen Sound, Ontario on beautiful Georgian Bay.   She moved to British Columbia in 1996 to begin her art education at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design, and has been a full time artist since 2000.

From early childhood Sara Jane's family frequently traveled south, instilling in her a passion for the American coastline, a passion that comes across in her vibrantly rendered paintings of seashells, sandpipers & crabs.  She continues to travel to the United States as often as possible in order to find inspiration from the beauty of the coastal areas.  Her work ranges from traditional representational to contemporary realism and reflects her interest in the natural world and celebrates the transformations that occur within it.  Her paintings often include subject matter that would not be the same without the natural aging process, from the chipped paint on an antique to worn down seashells.

Sara Jane is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Women Artists and the International Guild of Realism.  In 2005 she was accepted into OPA's 14th annual national juried exhibition and received an award of excellence.  In 2006 she was chosen for Southwest Art magazines annual 21 under 31 article  "The Next Generation" as well as "Start your collection" in their September emerging artist issue.  Sara Jane currently lives and works in Owen Sound and Muskoka, ON, Canada.
